Marina Fiesta Resort in Cabo San Lucas

The Marina Fiesta Resort is located in downtown Cabo San Lucas Mexico and overlooks the marina. The accommodations and the view of the marina are excellent, but the best part about the Marina Fiesta Resort is the location. The Marina Fiesta Resort is walking distance to everything in Cabo. I have stayed at other resorts on the beach, and the taxi ride to town to go fishing in the morning, then back to your hotel in the afternoon, then back to town in the evening to have dinner and drinks, then back to the hotel at night are a pain in the butt and cost a fortune. At the Marina Fiesta, if you want to enjoy some of the best deep sea fishing in the world you simply walk down stairs to one of the many of charter boats. If you would like to have dinner in town, you simply walk around the marina to choose from the dozens of restaurants for every taste. Other activities within walking distance include ATV tours and Jet Skis. The security at the hotel and the marina are both excellent with 24-hour security guards. More on the Marina Fiesta Resort

Cabo Activities:

Deep Sea Fishing: Cabo San Lucas has some of the best deep-sea fishing in the world. You can book a trip in advance over the Internet or wait until you get there. There are dozens of boats to choose from. You can fish for half a day in a panga boat for a couple hundred dollars, but I do not recommend it. The price for a full size fishing boat starts at ~$500 for a full day of fishing. There are also larger boats that are much more expensive. The price of the boat has no bearing on how many fish you will catch, it all depends on your Capitan and crew. You may want to find out who is catching fish and book a trip with that captain. The best boat we have ever been on in Cabo San Lucas was Fred Archer’s. The four times we fished on this boat we caught LOTS of fish every day. Unfortunately his boat is no longer in Cabo and his captain is now the captain of a commercial fishing boat. Be sure to bring cash, the fishing boats do not accept credit cards.

Jet Skiing: From the Marina Fiesta you can head South and wind your way around the Marina into the harbor where the Cruise ships anchor. On the beach you can rent Jet Skis. I highly recommend renting a jet ski if the weather is not too cold and the waves are not too high. A jet ski is a great way to see the harbor and the famous Arch. The price is ~$75 for an hour, (Cash.)

ATV’s: There are at least two places you can rent ATV’s in Cabo. They both have the same Honda ATV’s and both take you to the Dunes or on a Tour of the desert. The cost is ~ $50 - $75, (Cash.) I highly recommend both the dunes and the desert tour. If you have to pick one the dunes is the best choice. One note of caution. The ATV’s in Cabo are notorious for serious injuries. You are in Mexico so they do not care if you drink alcohol while you are riding. Some tours even stop at a bar so you can have a beer during the ride. If you closely inspect the bikes you are riding you will notice that most of them have bent handlebars and assorted dents. The ATV’s are a great way to spend an afternoon, but you may want to have the beer after the ride.

Boat tour of the Arch: For a few dollars you can take a tour of the Arch in a boat. This something fun to do on your first trip to Cabo.

Sunset Cruises: There are a couple of Sunset Cruises you can take from the marina. While I have never been on one, the people returning from these cruises seem to be in a pretty good mood, which indicates they had a good time.

Mexican Food: The best Mexican food in Cabo is Margaritavilla. It is at the North West corner of the marina.

Steak: Those skinny cows you see on the Desert ATV tour with their ribs showing are what they serve for beef in Mexico. If you like the taste of the beef served in the US, the taste of beef in Mexico is not very good. The good news is that if you are craving a great steak in Cabo, there is a Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse at the marina. The steaks at this Ruth's Chris are the same you get in the US. One note, bring your own wine. This Ruth’s Chris has a horrible selection of wine and it is 4x more expensive than the liquor store right next door. A bottle of Jordan Cab that costs $100 at any other Ruth's Chris costs $250 at this location. There is a $25 corking fee at Ruth’s Chris, but you can get some incredible South American wines next door for $50 - $75.

Seafood: I do not eat seafood, but I am told there a couple of excellent restaurants that will prepare the fresh fish you caught for a very reasonable price. Ask your boat captain who he recommends.

Night Life: Cabo is the home to Sammy Hagar’s famous Cabo Wabo Cantina as well as other notable places like the Giggling Marlin and Cannery Row. I recommend visiting all three. There are also dozens of smaller places so I recommend walking around town and stoping in any place that looks fun.

Shopping: Shopping ranges from the upscale mall at the marina to the flea markets just off the main street. There is always a deal to be had, so never settle for the asking price. If you like souvenir Tee Shirts the Cabo Harley Davidson Shop next to Ruth’s Chris, The Cabo Wabo Cantina, and Margaritavilla all have stylish tee shirts that make great gifts.
